Can poetry be translated? « Poetry is what gets lost in translation, » the American poet Robert Frost is often quoted as saying. According to the Oxford Handbook, « poetry translation may be defined as relayent poetry into another language ». But it seems more correct to say that the challenges and these will be highlighted in this seminar. Case studios and examples of American or English poems translated into French will be presented and discussed during the first sessions of the seminar. The last sessions will be dévotes to a few French poems translated into English. Participants will be expected to submit some work each week: their interprétation of the original text, à Word-for-Word translation, and their work in poetic translation. Finally, the class will be like a creative writing workshop.
